At Cardinal Comfort Care Cooperative, we fully understand how crucial safe and reliable transportation is, especially for individuals with unique mobility challenges. To address these needs, we proudly have a transportation division called Redbird Transportation, a service dedicated to providing exceptional transportation options. 

Our team of professional drivers is thoroughly trained to accommodate various mobility requirements, ensuring that you or your loved ones are transported comfortably and arrive at your destination on time. Whether you need assistance getting to medical appointments, running errands, or enjoying social outings, we prioritize your safety and comfort every step of the way. With our combined efforts, we aim to enhance your travel experience and provide peace of mind.

Operating and Dispatch Hours

Please note that all rides must be scheduled at least two days in advance to ensure availability.

  • Operating Hours: 8 AM - 6 PM
  • Dispatch Hours: 7:30 AM - 6 PM

Transport Rates

  • Wheelchairs and Assisted Moves: $27.50 + $2.50 per mile
  • Unassisted Pickup: $5.00 + $2.50 per mile
  • Milage Rate: $2.50 per mile loaded, $1.50 per mile unloaded outside of operating area
  • Wait Charge: $0.50 per minute - Hospital Billing
  • Outside Business Hours Surcharge: $100
  • Trail Shuttle*: Passenger pays deadhead milage to trailhead, or back to town

Policies
Rate is $5.50 per person plus $1.50 per mile for full trip from Two Harbors, to pickup, and back.
Pets: $15.00 Surcharge Dogs MUST be leashed and under control in the vehicle. Rides ideally should be scheduled with 48 hour notice and confirmation. Weekends need to be scheduled and confirmed at least 3 days in advance.
Same-Day rides are not guaranteed.
Martin Road
This section introduces a classic thru-hike with 93 SHT campsites from Martin Road to the northern end. The mostly flat trail shares the first 2.6 miles with the North Shore State Trail, primarily used by snowmobiles, and features mixed forests and ponds. Note that the Martin Road Trailhead closes temporarily after the spring thaw due to muddy conditions.

This trailhead features a relatively flat section that is shared with the North Shore State Trail, which is primarily used for snowmobiling, extending for 2.8 miles. The route passes through various forests, including some large white pines.

Normanna Road
This section of the trail spans a total of 8.1 miles for thru-hikers, including a 0.9-mile access spur trail. Hikers can look forward to a relatively flat terrain that showcases a diverse range of forests and a charming series of ponds. As the trail intersects with various other paths, it's essential to stay attentive to the signage to ensure a smooth journey.

The total mileage includes a 0.9-mile access spur trail. For thru-hikers, the mileage for this section is 4.1 miles. The spur trail connects to the main trail on a ridge overlooking the wetlands and crosses the Sucker River. The trail winds through a mixed forest and past ponds, offering occasional scenic views.

Mileage includes a 1.2-mile access spur trail. The thru-hiker mileage for this section is 5.7 miles. This area features scenic tributaries of McCarthy Creek and Knife River. Lake County Demonstration Forest shows some evidence of logging activities.

Mileage includes a 1.2-mile access spur trail. The thru-hiker mileage for this section is 9.8 miles. This section is relatively flat and passes through old-growth maple forests. It crosses the scenic Stewart River and features a spur trail to Reeves Falls.

Reeves Road to County Rd 301
Start with a half-mile walk that winds into the woods. Descend the steep rock cliff via rugged stairs, then enjoy nearly two miles alongside the cascading waters of Silver Creek.

County Rd 301/Fors Road
Rolling valleys rise to pine-studded ridgelines. The Encampment River has no bridge; a stepping stone crossing is only viable during low water and is not safe after rain or spring run-off. A roadwalk around this section is marked at the trailhead parking lot. Most of this area is on private land, so stay on the trail at all times. Camping is not allowed!

Castle Danger Trailhead
This trail section spans 8.73 miles, starting with a short, steep climb to the ridgeline with views of the forests and Lake Superior. A highlight is Mike’s Rock, which offers great panoramic views. The trail then follows the scenic Gooseberry River for 4 miles. There’s a 3.34-mile spur trail to the Gooseberry Falls State Park parking lot, leading to the waterfalls, Visitor Center, and more views of Lake Superior.
